Duties of the Clerk

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court is to function as a team dedicated to our customers by preparing and maintaining accurate records, furnishing assistance in an understanding and compassionate manner, and providing services with competence, professionalism, and courtesy in compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.

Clerk Duties

The Jackson County Clerk of Courts serves in three primary roles: Clerk of the Circuit and County Courts, County Recorder and Clerk Accountant, and Auditor to the Board of County Commissioners.

The Clerk of the Circuit Court also serves ex officio as Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners, as well as the county’s auditor, recorder, and custodian of county funds. In this capacity, the Clerk acts as the county’s chief financial officer, comptroller, and treasurer.

As Clerk to the Board, the office maintains records of official county activities, including County Commission meeting minutes, ordinances, and other official county documents.

As Accountant and Auditor to the Board, the Clerk is responsible for maintaining financial records and preparing required reports on all funds received and disbursed by the Board. The office also oversees the investment of surplus county funds.

The Clerk is elected to a four-year term and may serve an unlimited number of terms.
